Red Ribbon Week. Tuesday, October 21 kicks-off our annual Red Ribbon Week in Hillsborough. The Red Ribbon began in 1985 to honor a brave government agent named Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who was tragically killed while fighting against illegal drugs in Mexico. Kiki believed that even just one person could make a difference, and after his death, people started wearing red ribbons to show they were committed to raising awareness about the dangers of drugs. Today, the Red Ribbon is worn across the country every year to remind millions of kids and families to live drug-free lives.
